WHAT IS

PEDAL COMMANDER?

Pedal Commander is an electronic device designed to enhance the responsiveness of a vehicle’s gas pedal. It eliminates throttle delay by modifying the signal sent to the engine’s Electronic Control Unit (ECU), allowing for more precise throttle inputs and quicker acceleration.

Modern vehicles’ throttle control systems are called drive-by-wire systems. They often have a delay between your initial pedal input and the actual movement of the valve in the throttle body. Pedal Commander eliminates this delay and provides immediate throttle feedback, resulting in much more engaging drives.

As technology evolved and everything went digital, the systems that were once mechanically controlled are now controlled by the vehicle’s computer. One such new system is the Electronic Throttle Control (ETC), known as drive-by-wire, which is an automobile technology that electronically connects the accelerator pedal to the throttle body, replacing a mechanical linkage.

A typical drive-by-wire system has 3 major components: (1) an accelerator pedal model, (2) a powertrain/engine control system (PCM/ECM), and (3) a throttle valve body that opens and closes by the electric motor. It also has several benefits such as reduced weight to take the pressure off the engine, better placement for easier time control and flexibility, and helps improve fuel economy and traction. However, it comes with its limitations. So Pedal Commander is applicable to only drive-by-wire throttle systems.

WHAT IS IT WITH DRIVE-BY-WIRE THROTTLE SYSTEMS?

WHY DO I NEED PEDAL COMMANDER?

The biggest disadvantage of drive-by-wire throttle systems is that their throttle responses are significantly slower. Manufacturers limit the throttle response in two steps.

First, they limit how much of the throttle body opens. For example, you can press the gas pedal all the way down (100%), but the ECU will open the throttle body 80% to 100%, depending on the manufacturer.

Second, the ECU programming decides how fast the throttle body will open. In other words, it doesn’t really matter how fast your right foot is flooring the gas pedal. The ECU controls the speed of the butterfly valve (valve inside the throttle body), so your right foot actually does not make the throttle body operation faster.

The Pedal Commander throttle response controller solves this problem. Our device connects in-line with the engine control unit at the pedal position sensors (gas pedal sensors) and is engineered to take the information at the PPS and compile it in a high-speed control circuit. It also slightly amplifies the signal and sends it directly to the ECU.

Pedal Commander remaps the factory throttle tuning to eliminate the delay from your accelerator (gas pedal), allowing your engine to respond faster to your inputs. As a result, your gas pedal becomes more sensitive, making your engine more responsive, like old-school cars with cable throttles.

City Mode

It gives you a more active throttle response, and it is perfect for daily driving. Many of our customers say that City mode allows the vehicle to accelerate as it should have from the factory. It gives you the response of an "old school" throttle cable, with a close to 1:1 pedal-to-throttle acceleration ratio.

*It is the recommended mode to drive in traffic.
